Everyone this week that I ran into was carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders.
I encountered social stress, academic pressure, betrayal of friendship, death, loss, feelings of failure and inadequacy as well as overwhelming to-do lists. This has become normal to us and in a way, part of life is wading through these human experiences. However, the weight of doing everything well and meeting the expectations of every person is unrealistic.
If you feel like you are failing to do everything perfectly, it’s because you are. You are operating outside of your design. You were not created to live life perfectly, or to satisfy the needs of the world, or to be the redeemer of your own life or the lives of others. That Man has already come, and He is not you.
When I am anxious, it is because I am believing lies: lies that God is far from me, or that I have somehow missed His grace, or that I am stuck in a life I can never get out of, etc. So, what a wise mentor advised me to do is remind my soul what is true:
He is a God who creates beauty out of chaos. (Gen. 1-2)
He is intimately aware of you. (Gen 2)
He is too Sovereign to make mistakes. (Gen. 1-2)
He is the God who sees you. (Gen 16:13)
He is a God who provides for you. (Gen 22)
He is the God who foils the plans of evil and turns them into good. (Gen 50:20)
He is the God of peace, not confusion. (1 Cor. 13:33)
He is a God who fights for you. (Ex. 14)
He is the lifter of your face. (Jn 8)
In Him, you are not condemned. (Rom 8)
He is close to the broken-hearted. (Ps. 34)
He made you to need Him. (2 Cor 12:9)
He is the fullness of joy. (Ps 16)
There are no lengths He would not go to find you. (Luke 14)
He is the God who runs to greet you. (Luke 15)
He is your strength. (Ps. 9)
He knows exactly how to speak to you when you need Him. (Jn 11)
His mercies are new every morning. (Lam 3)
He is not far from you. (Acts 17)
He will never stop finding you. (Hos 6)
He is the God who takes you by the hand. (Mark 5)
He is the God who calls you by name. (Jn 20)
He is able to present you blameless before Him. (Jude)
He invites you to Him in confidence. (Heb 4)
He delights in you. (Ps 141)
He knows what you need before you ask. (Matt 6)
He wins, in the end. (Rev 22)
This, the truth, is what evil must bow to. Every thought, emotion, feeling, and circumstance must be subject to what is absolutely true, and the truth is that God is completely holy, limitlessly sovereign, and endlessly loves you. And even though life may not get easier, He will only become sweeter to you. What a joy it is to walk this life beside Him.
“Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord”
Psalm 31:24
